I hate to call this a review, because I hardly have the credentials to do such a thing. What I can do is relate my experience as a regular Joe/ukulele enthusiast; the everyman, enjoying a few drinks at the local dive bar. I can’t say I’m unbiased though, because I already like the guy simply because he’s rocking the ukulele and playing the kind of songs you can’t help but sing along to. But, review I will. I think one of the best ways to motivate yourself to keep playing is to become a part of the music-playing community. But where are they? When I first started playing, I had a hard time finding groups to play with. And when I finally did stumble upon a group, it was dismally small.
Since that time, I’ve learned that Anchorage has a vibrant musical community, including lots of interest in the ukulele. But, when I search for information on uke groups, the pickings are slim. Continue reading “Local Groups”
I wanted to keep it local tonight and talk about the Anchorage Folk Festival, which is a totally cool… (yea, let’s make that pun intended) folk music festival that happens in Anchorage for about ten days each year.
